This team is all about fulfilling roles. Dedicated fullbacks in Yedlin/Villafana. Guys who can fill in at LB/RB or play more advanced in Zusi/Fabian Johnson. LCBs in Besler and Brooks. RCBs in Cameron, Gonzo, and Miazga. My one reservation here is 5 CBs, maybe subbing one for a midfielder or winger would be ideal. Moving up, we have Bradley, Williams, Acosta and McCarty as pure center mids. Williams is the hard man, McCarty a possession/distribution guy in attack, Bradley as a support for the defense and attack, Acosta is a box to box guy. Nagbe can also rotate in. Wingers are Arriola, Johnson, Nagbe, and Pulisic, and maybe Jordan Morris as needed. Center Attacking/creative players are Pulisic and/or Dempsey. We are thin in this role, but that's just our national pool. Strikers are found in Bobby Wood, Jozy Altidore, Jordan Morris as a winger/striker, and Dempsey as a creator/striker. This is a dynamic, flexible, deep, and talented pool and probably about the best we have to offer, unless Weston McKennie or Emerson Hyndman or some other younger guys we have explode this year. Speaking of younger guys, Ethan Horvath is left out of the squad, but he and Bill Hamid are 50/50, but Hamid's presence on the squad for a longer time gets him the nod for now. If Horvath proves himself at Club Brugge, he gets preference. Then consistency is the philosophy in goal, with Howard and Guzan.
