Josh Westerman
almost 11 years
If you play with one forward, he has to have the physical qualities to challenge the back line on his own. In the absence of Altidore and Boyd, EJ is the guy who fits the bill. McGee isn't up to it. Very little word out the January camp, but I hope that Benny has earned his chance to play in the hole behind EJ. I believe he's better equipped to start there than Mix at this stage. I also think Mix has better range than Benny - so he and Gil, though slight and small, respectively, could be a lively defensive midfield duo. Beckerman, please no. Donovan and Zusi are the best wide players in this squad. Parkhurst is such a solid / conservative defender, placing him behind Landon allows Landon to run free. I could see Zusi and Yedlin combining well on the right. Evans, please no. Besler is the best we have at CB. I prefer Goodson to Gonzalez because he makes fewer mistakes and tends to contribute goals off set pieces more often (something we've missed without Boca and/or Gooch). I like this Johnson kid in goal.
