Ok. This. Was. Tough. First, I put Rimando at goalkeeper out of pity. He's always third on the roster. It's about time he starts serious minutes for the USMNT in an actual competition. Everyone was clamoring for Castillo to start at LB when Beasley was suspended. I personally thought he wasn't ready for a WCQ, so he gets the start in the Gold Cup. I put Bocanegra for experience and John for potential. Yedlin's hair is awesome. Why wouldn't he start in my fantasy roster? I honestly don't know what Dax McCarty has to do to get a call up at this point. Intrigued by Holden's recovery. Excited by Gatt's raw skill. Boyd didn't get much time at the senior level. I believe this is his time to shine, and McInerney has everyone salivating. There's a reason he's consistently in my "5 to Watch." The two are my fantasy pairing up top. So, the last person I have to explain is Landon Donovan. I have him at LM for one reason and one reason only: Graham Zusi is the RM for the USMNT. Donovan's time at that position is over. But what the USMNT doesn't have is a solid contributor at LM. EJ is inconsistent. Brad Davis just doesn't have what it takes to succeed at the international level. We've seen Donovan at that position before, and I refuse to believe the USMNT is a better team without Donovan. It would be up to Donovan and Bocanegra to not only earn their way back into the senior level, but be the leadership necessary to secure a Gold Cup victory.
