I feel like the biggest explanation for this lineup is needed for the left and right midfielders. I know that I put Dempsey out of position a bit and Zusi may not be the best option, but I liked the connection he and Cherundolo had on the right side against Jamaica. Cherundolo brought the width play the U.S. so desperately needed, which allowed Zusi to drift inside a bit more. With Johnson playing a similar function on the left, that will allow Dempsey to drift inside, which would be more natural for him. I know I will take some heat for leaving Donovan out, but I have a love/hate affair with him. Based on the last few times I've seen him with the national team, I'm on the hate side. Outside of that, I like Gomez's work rate which is why I placed him alongside Altidore. I hope the rest is self-explanatory.
