Quite simply, Klinnsman has not included enough offensive talent to control and put stamps on games in CONCACAF that the US is capable of. While the lineup may be considered overly offensive, the XI includes players with high work rates (notably Pontius and Donovan, in support of Bradley) and athleticism, which would yield nicely to a high-pressure, team defending concept employed by Mourinho in Madrid. Eddie Jonhson's resurgence in MLS is worthy of his inclusion, if not for the very fact that forward play for the US has been abysmal, so why not try a player in Johnson's form. Altidore's size and presence would force teams to respect the US in the air and would allow high pressure turnovers to result in dangerous counter attacks whipping balls into the box. The back line speaks for itself, including a balance of defending ability, ability in the air, and ability to get forward at the outside back position.
