I like the 4-2-3-1. It doesn't compromise defensive stability and still allows for a potent attack. The back 4 and keeper are near unanimous choices among fans and the media. I like Bradley and Williams shielding the back 4 because of solid positional sense and ability to maintain possession. They are simply better options than the more turnover prone Edu and Jones. I put Altidore up front alone, and I am willing to concede that his best days with the MNT were with a strike partner in Charlie Davies. Jozy has matured enough in his hold-up play to do the job now. I love the idea of Donovan, Dempsey, and Zusi buzzing underneath the big man. Herc Gomez nearly took Zusi's or Altidore's spot in my team, but he can still be incredibly effective off the bench. Zusi was a workhorse last month against Jamaica, and Altidore's club form is too hard to ignore. Finally, this formation puts our best player in his best role. Dempsey plays off the striker, can be a playmaker, and can take risks knowing that Williams and Bradley can clean up behind him.
