This would actually be set up as a 3-2-3-2 with the midfield breaking up as Beckerman and Bradley as the middle 2 and Dempsey, Donovan, and Zusi as the middle three. It sets up where either or both of the middle 2 can drop back and help with the back three. With two midfielders a level behind the set of three the goal is that those three will not have to come back so far to get the ball and can make plays closer to goal. This does assume that all the players are healthy and fit.
