Assembled in the de facto standard formation in world football, 4-2-3-1, this team is the best XI we can field right now. 4-2-3-1 maximizes our two best players: Dempsey and Bradley, and we've performed well when Klinsmann's used it so far. Howard needs no justification, and the back line is our best by default. Dolo's still performing well, although could be replaced by Timmy Chandler or Lichaj in the future. Cameron and Boca have been the most reliable CB pairing yet, but finding alternatives is crucial due to Boca's age. Beitashour, Ream, Goodson, DeLaGarza, and Omar Gonzalez are possibilities as well. On the left, Fabian Johnson has easily earned the start. No player's performed even close to his level. Paired in midfield is Danny Williams and Michael Bradley, who've performed excellently so far. Williams is an able #6, sitting in front of the defense and playing simple passes to control possession. He's less of a calamity than Beckerman, passes better than Edu, and won't concede fouls like Jones. However, if Ozzie Alonso is cleared to play for the US, Williams could have serious competition. Bradley's place is secure. He's the best passer on the team, and has improved remarkably since his time in Italy. He's playing well for Roma and is dominant as a #8, consistently linking play from defense to attack. Zusi-Dempsey-Donovan are my choices for the attacking midfield trio. Donovan is still the best on the right, but if he decides to retire from international soccer Josh Gatt could earn a look. I also like playing Eddie Johnson there, because of his goal-scoring prowess. He impressed in the two starts he's made, and gives us another threat in the box. Dempsey is a no-brainer, and plays in his customary role for Spurs. On the left I opted for Zusi. The man's been on fire for SKC, is an excellent passer, and provides excellent shots and crosses. Jose Torres and Brek Shea are other possibilities. Up front I went with Jozy over Herc. He's young, technically gifted, physically dominant, and plays extraordinarily well for AZ. Hopefully, leaving him out of the side these past few games will resonate with him, and he'll pick up his play. Regardless of his past form, he still is the best option at striker for WC2014. Terrence Boyd, Chris Pontius, and obvious Herc Gomez are good candidates as well. And anybody else think Wondo deserves another call-up? So yeah, just my opinion. Certainly there are a number of players who could get called up, and no one really knows how guys like Stuart Holden will be coming off of injury. Donovan is obviously a big question mark, as are Dolo and Boca, simply because of their age. USAUSAUSA!
