The US needs more than target players against A&B. It needs players who can possess the ball, create chances on the ground and threaten with shots from distance -- all effective against bunker defenses. Bradley and Williams can both shield the defense and contribute to the attack, and Johnson and Cherundolo add valuable width. Given the self-imposed lack of reliable strikers, Gomez's movement and instincts with Dempsey playing the withdrawn role is the best forward partnership available for now.
