It's no secret the US needs all three points from this game. With that in mind, I've selected a very attack-minded 4-3-3.
I want this team to play a high line and win the ball higher up the field. Beasley and Beltran are guys that can push forward and provide some width in the attack, but both guys are also in only because of lack of other options. The last time Edu-Cameron was the center back pairing, the US won for the first time ever in Mexico.
Kyle Beckerman wins the ball high up the pitch and keeps possession. He can cycle the ball to out to the wings while also playing simple passes to Bradley and Zusi. Zusi is in a more central role a la last year with Sporting KC. I want him as my playmaker driving forward, putting defenses on the back foot and providing the service Jozy Altidore so desperately needs. Herc Gomez plays out wide for Santos and does an excellent job cutting inside and making late runs into the box. Dempsey is listed as a wide player, but I want him to drift all over the pitch in the free role that makes him so dangerous. As a very attack-minded fullback, Beasley should be able to compensate and provide width when Dempsey cuts inside. With Costa Rica's questionable defense, Dempsey drifting and Herc's smart runs should provide plenty of space and opportunities for Jozy.
