Lead-in: I hate that our back line is out of sorts these days with injury. And I hate that Der Fuehrer left Boca high and dry. At least 'Los is willing to play for him (insert random Donovan soul-searching and subsequent quote from Der Kommissar about the open doors and equal evaluations here). So, here goes:
GK: Guzan - Form outstanding for Villa. Has more minutes than any other keeper this year AND has WCQer experience.
LB: RunDMB - Experience needed with Ruiz on that side. Can go forward and provide width.
CB(L): Gonzo - Can play either back position. But going with Mo at CB(R) makes him left back.
CB(R): Mo - With back line depleted and no Boca, gets nod for work rate and playing this position in the game against Mexico last August.
RB: Cameron - His natural position and most caps of true defender in roster.
*In no way would I ever put Goodson in. Lose his phone number. Besler would get my nod over him. Further, I'd save Morrow and Beltran for the Gold Cup.
LM: Shea - Healed. Not getting many minutes. But, always hungry and takes defenders on. Gives width, too.
CM(L): The General - Doesn't matter where he plays. Incredible work rate. Like his vision and think Dempsey will benefit from it with incisive passes through lanes created by width of DMB and Shea.
CM(R): Jones - His natural position and let's face it, Klinsi won't leave him off the starting XI.
*Otherwise, I could see Sacha here.
* I know folks like him. I don't: Lose Beckerman's number, too.
F: Duece and Herc. They work hard, create, and finish. Let them roam.
*Ah, the in-form goal scorers:
EJ - Have seen him work hard. And not. Fight for a ball and quit after a shot. Isn't the first line of defense the forwards? Uncertainty about which shows up = bench/sub.
Lazy - Scores for club. Rarely for country. Also see above comments on EJ.
Boyd - Give him a go if there's an injury or a spark is needed. Otherwise, Gold Cup.
*Oh, and I'd swap Rimando and Johnson in and out in Gold Cup action.
Thanks for the roster, Klinsi. I did what I could with it. Hope you will, too.
