I've been conflicted on this lineup all week, as i'm sure the rest of you have been too. So, here it goes:
I think he goes with this lineup because it gives us TONS of flexibility in attack/defense positioning. Both Jones/Bradley can attack and defend giving us 6 guys up and 6 guys back.
Similarly, the Gomez/Dempsey/Johnson line can both hold in the midfield and attack up top giving us some flexibility there too.
Altidore alone up top because that's the only place he can play and we NEED to rely on his current form to get some chances at goal. Gomez and Johnson will be pushing forward whenever possible to provide him with service and Dempsey will be there to clean up any messes in the box.
