A wingback role is the best way to utilize FJ's talents in the Pulisic (and Nagbe era). This formation allows Nagbe to do what he does best. Nagbe's ability to push the team out from defending into the final third makes him an indispensable cog in a midfield 3. It also enables CP to roam, find the ball in dangerous spots, and be the playmaker that he needs to be.
MB will sit just above the back three and dictate the flow of the game, as he's known to do.
3 cbs, 1 who's special in the air and phenomenal at last-ditch defending, 1 who's a great left-footed distributor out of the back and has speed, and 1 who can do it all and provide cover for Zusi on the right.
A wingback role also fits Zusi's skillset better than a traditional outside back role does.
Wood and Altidore need to be the front 2 going forward, with Dempsey coming on as needed midway through the second half.
