Keys to this lineup.
Speed: Gooch and Yedlin along the wings. Both will push up on the wings, which leads to the second key, Versatility: This lineup can sit at a defensive 5-3-2, and immediately switch to an attacking strong 3-5-2 with Yedlin and Gooch on the wings. More consistently, can move to a 4-4-2 on the attack, with one of the two pushing up. You can also move to a 4-4-2 focused on possession with a diamond midfield. In this case, Cameron would step up as a defensive midfielder. Pulisic will step up as an attacking mid.
In the base set with a flat midfield, I would also like to actually have pulisic on the right pushed up a little further. I put him in the middle here to show he will be an attacking mid.
As far as the attack, Wood is the point man. His job is to receive, hold, and distribute as well as finish. Morris (or Altidore as a very competent alternative) will sit slightly behind Wood on the left, and pulisic even a little deeper than Morris on the right.
Subs: Bedoya is a strong option for the midfield if you would like to focus on possession or attack. Bradley and Jones if defense.
Altidore is a solid option up top, and I like him coming off the bench. His physical play can impose its will on tired defenders.
