Disclaimer: Klinsmann will never play anything close this lineup, and personally I am not at all on the hype trains of any of the young inexperienced players--especially in a USvMEX game that is one of the biggest for the U.S. from now until the 2018 World Cup. That said, I've been hoping for a long time that the USMNT would use the 3-5-2 system because I think it fits the player pool best. Both Fabian Johnson and DeAndre Yedlin are surefire starters, but both are hybrids of outside backs and wingers. This would make them the perfect wingbacks in a 3-5-2, flying up and down the wings. It also works well because the centerback position is deeper now, although it would work much better with Geoff Cameron available to play on the right of the 3 CBs. Bradley will sit deep, with Jermaine Jones ahead of him as an advanced destroyer and Sacha Kljestan as the playmaker. The U.S. is going to be hugely reliant on the in form Altidore, because without Dempsey there is a real lack of other goal scoring threats. I rate Jordan Morris well over Bobby Wood because they have similar styles, except that Morris is far more intelligent, makes better runs, and is more of a threat in behind. Of course the Secretary of Defense Tim Howard in goal, and his heroics may be needed against the wealth of attacking options for Mexico. Another note is that this system and lineup would be even better if Klinsmann actually called in better players that he dislikes--Feilhaber, Nagbe, Jose Francisco Torres, Jorge Villafana, Jonathan Bornstein, and more.
