The usage of technical and and mobile players at the back (3) who are very good distributors of the ball allows for a proactive ball retention style of play. The mixture of pace and power (plus) defensive ability of Yedlin allows him to bomb up and down the right wing and using Garza, continues his integration into the squad. His on the ball ability and being natural lefty makes him an intriguing prospect, one who is in the mold (potentially) of Miguel Layun of Mexico, who performed fantastically for them in Brazil. Bradley is in his preferred spot, playing and sharing work rates alongside Bedoya, who has an engine only rivaled by Bradley in the squad. Bedoya is a terrific chance creator and plays simple when deployed in a more free roaming central area and allows Bradley to drop in and play a quasi-ball distributor role while having the ability to push forward with the dribble and runs b/c Bedoya has the tactical savvy and energy to cover for Bradley or recover if need be. It is natural to play Altidore and thus Dempsey is able to be Dempsey. The true travesty of the WC was that Dempsey was used solely as the false 9 or target forward when Jozy went down. That IS NOT where he is even close to most effective. We should have used a natural target forward and allowed constant interchange and interplay btwn "target" and Dempsey at the tip of the formation then. This lineup allows for that to happen but also allows Clint to drift/roam and to even take up central attacking positions when Jozy drifts wide for the ball (as he so often does and is very effective in doing so). Using Mix as a point of the front 3 or underneath 2 brings a superior skillset and an ability to see the pass that is lacking within the current US set-up. Minus a Benny Feilhaber or Lee Nguyen (travesty-even if Revs are attempting to qualify) that isn't there.
