While many realize that Brad Guzan is a serious asset to the Us team and a threat to Tim Howard's position, Howard's contribution this year to the Toffees and his overall world cup experience should place him as the No.1. keeper for the National Team. Gonzalez and Besler have proved to be a rock for the central defense for the past few years, and why change what has no problem? The main cause for concern in a defensive standpoint is the outside. Although Steve Cherundolo would have been an excellent pick for a right outside position, he regrettably suffered from a knee injury and has retired from professional futbol. The next pick should be Brad Evans, and eventually Cameron after having plenty of time playing at his current english club. The left back position will be a very close call between Beasley and Johnson. Johnson has played midfield for the team before (and is very defensive), but Beasley's experience at the role will most likely give him the start. Klinsmann has made it very adamant that Bradley and Jones are key to the Us team's success. They are most likely to be paired as the defensive midfielders for many world cup matches. In order to inspire creativity and success in the attacking side of the field, Zusi, Dempsey, and Donovan should be paired across the midfield to ensure that a sound offensive team is created. Although Dempsey and Donovan may not be in their familiar roles, it is necessary for them to in order to stay on the field. Altidore, who has shown great success up top of the field is most likely to be our key striker as he has been for many seasons. Julian Green is most likely to be a key attacking sub, however most likely will not see much playing time.
