  • Clint Dempsey, whose Tottenham club plays Panathinaikos Thursday, believes his team can win the Europa Cup. "We do have a lot of quality in this team. As long as everyone is working hard and focused, you always have a chance. And with the quality we have, I can't see why we can't go all the way and win it," he said. More of this:
  • On the Americans in major tournaments front, Sacha Kljestan played the second half in Anderlecht's 3-0 defeat to Malaga. He replaced "Massimo Bruno after the break to tighten things up." Malaga scored two goals in the final 45 minutes.
  • Jay DeMerit and the Vancouver Whitecaps shut out Chivas USA, winning for the first time in eight matches. “It’s been the performance we’ve been waiting for for a long time,” DeMerit said. “It takes a certain effort from a lot of guys to do performances like tonight. For once we put a performance together—the defenders defended well, and the goalscorers went and scored goals." The Caps are five points clear of FC Dallas for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, though FCD has a game-in-hand.
  • Jack McInerney scored a goal and earned an assist in the Philadelphia Union's 3-1 victory over the Chicago Fire.
