SOME NEWS REGARDING the United States national team dropped on Wednesday as interim head coach Dave Sarachan was in the Philadelphia area ahead of next month’s friendly against Bolivia.

On Tuesday night, Sarachan threw out the first pitch at the Philadelphia Phillies game. For an interim manager, Sarachan is enjoying his tenure keeping the team moving forward.

Sargent & Pulisic to return

The big set of news came from the press conference when Sarachan announced that Christian Pulisic would return to the U.S. team in May for the first time since the loss last October in Trinidad & Tobago. The Borussia Dortmund start will now likely be part of a much younger U.S. squad that features players like Tyler Adams who he played with for youth national teams.

Another player who is set to join the U.S. team is U-20 forward Josh Sargent. Also on the U.S. U-20 team, Sargent, 18, is a prized prospect for both U.S. Soccer and Werder Bremen – although he is yet to make a professional appearance due to the fact he turned 18 after the Bundesliga registration date. If Sargent plays in the upcoming friendlies, it will be his first cap.

Sargent training with Werder’s first team

Staying on Josh Sargent, Werder Bremen revealed that the St. Louis native trained today with the first team. It is all part of preparations for the 2018/19 season when Sargent is expected to be given a chance to compete for a spot on the club’s first team this summer in preseason.

A mix of MLS and European players

Sarachan also discussed how the roster will be put together. Since the games are not on the international break, MLS clubs do not have to release players for these games. With no World Cup or official games coming up, MLS teams will be reluctant to have their players be gone for an extended period of time with such little on the line.

Sarachan indicated that the friendly against Bolovia in Pennsylvania could be more MLS heavy while the following friendlies in Ireland and France will lean more on European players. He also added that he is going to consider players who have logged a high number of minutes over the past season.
