  • We start off the New Year with an old story: Clint Dempsey scored for Spurs in classic Clint Dempsey fashion. He turned, struck the ball from 30 yards out, and watched it take a deflection and drop wonderfully over Reading keeper Adam Federici's head. Majestic, ballsy, lucky. The Texan had just come on as a substitute, and his tally clinched the match for Spurs who now sit third in the EPL. It was Dempsey's 54th goal since his debut on 1/20/07.

  • Alfredo Morales can't find any time at Hertha Berlin but he's getting called in to the United States national team. Of course he is. [Insert your German-American joke here.] More about Morales here.

  • My man Steve Davis takes a long look at the possible future of Omar Gonzalez. Could the Los Angeles Galaxy central defender be on the move soon? Say it ain't so. Or maybe say it is so. I don't know. What do you think?

  • In other Galaxy news, Bruce Arena thinks Landon Donovan will be back with the squad in 2013. β€œI've never said he wasn't [coming back],” Arena told MLSsoccer.com. β€œHe's on our team. On the contrary, I would think he's coming back unless I hear otherwise. I'm going to plan on Landon being back until I hear otherwise.” I think so, too.

  • If you see Brad Guzan, give him a hug.
