Former U-17 defender Mobi Fehr finds out his future today. He will enter a weighted lottery, which the Portland Timbers are heavy favorites to win. The Seattle Sounders and the San Jose Earthquakes were the only two other teams to choose to participate. (The squad that wins the lottery will lose its right to be in another one during the 2013 season.) Fehr, who spent time in Toyko and at FC Basel in Switzerland, has loads of potential. Portland's strong offseason looks to get even better.
Jermaine Jones lands a new coach at Schalke 04. U-17 coach Jens Keller replaces Huub Stevens. I was hoping for Jones as player/coach.
Michael Parkhurst said something interesting in an interview with ESPN. He was speaking about looking for a new club and offered the following thought: "Germany maybe has a bit of everything and it wouldn't hurt with the national team." While I'm not surprised that playing in Germany would give a man a better chance of being seen by Jurgen Klinsmann, I am a little surprised to hear someone come out and say it so clearly.
Tim Ream as defensive midfielder? It could happen and soon. The former New York Red Bulls centerback has been playing further up the field in reserve matches with Bolton.
Will Seattle get a World Cup qualifier in the near future? Yeah, not going to happen.
Lionel Messi plays for the love of the game. But also, cash. The little man signed a new contract with Barcelona that presumably pays him in more than smiles.
