After speaking of his desire to take a break from the game, Landon Donovan looked to be having fun, coolly converting a penalty to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a come-from-behind 2-1 over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Jurgen Klinsmann held a media teleconference Thursday and touched on Donovan’s future with the USMNT. “I let him do his playoff games and I hope, for him, that he gets as far as possible with his team, the Galaxy," the U.S. coach said. "I will definitely, then, once he has a moment, reach out to him and meet for lunch or dinner with him and talk through his thoughts.”
So... Landon gets a full meal and Brek Shea just gets coffee? Sounds about right, actually.
Another topic of discussion for Klinsmann was Jozy Altidore, who scored twice Thursday for AZ in a 4-1 Dutch Cup win over amateur side SWZ Boso Sneek (yes that’s the club’s real name.)
Klinsmann says he hasn’t spoken to Jozy since the 22-year-old was left off the roster for the last two qualifiers: “We’ve had no further contact since then and I haven’t made up my mind yet if I’ll call him in for Russia.”

Hertha Berlin’s John Anthony Brooks, who holds dual-citizenship, says he’d rather play for the U.S., despite his more recent call-up to Germany’s U-20 camp in August. “The United States is still my first choice,” the 6-foot-7 defender and ASN 100 November debutante said. “Playing for the German team was O.K. but America was a lot better. My father would like me to play for the United States but he said it was my decision.”
