ASN Morning Read: Zelalem A Citizen At Last?

After last week's fake-Gedion Zelalem Twitter madness, the 17-year-old Arsenal player has reportedly obtained his U.S. citizenship, which would clear the way for him to suit up in the red, white and blue.

  • Steven Goff reports Arsenal's Gedion Zelalem was in Washington on Monday to finalize the United States naturalization process. Zelalem, who turns 18 on Jan. 26, has made two official appearances for Arsenal. His debut came in an FA Cup match last season and he played the entire second half of a Champions League match against Galatasaray on Dec. 9.

Can't you just watch this pass all day?

  • Jurgen Klinsmann interview with FIFA.com that included perhaps the most outlandish Klinsmann soundbite to date. “Maybe we can find someone kicking a ball around the streets,” he said. “Maybe there’s a Messi hiding somewhere here in the States. Who knows?"

  • Premier League seem short on Americans this season? You're correct. Only four have appeared so far in 2014-15. This is quite a drop-off considering there were 13 in 2006-07 and 10 as recently as 2009-10. To be fair, DeAndre Yedlin will likely make it five and if Zelalem plays a league game, there's one more. Also, Brad Friedel.

  • Clint Dempsey spoke to Sports Illustrated Kids about spitting hot fire. "My oldest daughter, who is five, will try to figure out words that rhyme when we're driving back and forth from school. I think you pick it up from reading books like Dr. Seuss and seeing the rhymes in that. From there you come into writing your own type of music. I guess that's where it all comes from."
