ASN Morning Read: That's MR. Defender of the Year

The Major League Soccer end of season awards continue to come fast and furiously, despite the fact that the season has not, you know, ended. But still, we like defenders so let's go crazy Seattle.

  • Chad Marshall is your 2014 MLS Defender of the Year:
  • New York City FC will take up all the oxygen next season, but Orlando City might be better. Brian Sciaretta talked to team owner Phil Rawlins during a sprawling conversation. Ambition man, ambition: "Our goal and our aim in the first year is to get into the playoffs. We know that is not going to be easy. Nobody here is underestimating the league and that is the very last thing we would do. We have a lot of respect for it and the coaches, players, and teams in it. But we’ve come to compete and not to make up numbers. We’ve been used to winning. We’ve got a culture of winning and we want to continue that culture."

And also: "I do believe we’re different. We’re not a big overseas company that is coming into the marketplace. We are a community-based club first and foremost. Our fans are the the core of the club and we’ve built up a big fanbase over the least four years. We have a soccer loving city. During the World Cup, Orlando’s TV ratings were fifth in the country. So we were right up there with major, major cities. I think the sport here in Orlando is nothing but bright and exciting."

  • Meanwhile, while the North American Soccer League loses Orlando City, it's gaining a franchise in Los Angeles. At least we think so.

  • Sony is out as a FIFA sponsor. This is huge, people.

  • Yep yep:
  • Whoops:
