  • MLS clubs released their protected lists for Wednesday’s expansion draft. Some big names left unprotected: Eddie Johnson, Tim Cahill, Alan Gordon and A. J. Soares.

  • U.S. Soccer announced a series of initiatives to expand its youth programs. They include adding U-16 and U-19 teams with full-time coaches, as well as an under-12 age group for the Development Academy. “Obviously, with all the initiatives, we want to push the envelope,” Klinsmann said. As reported a few weeks ago, the federation is set to hire an outside firm to evaluate the youth national teams and Development Academy.
