Unfounded transfer speculation! Newcastle United is said to be interested in taking Clint Dempsey on a loan deal, joining Everton, Fulham, and Aston Villa as those reportedly interested. Tottenham has first crack, but with Spurs’ depth it’s hard to imagine they’d need him.

Though most of an AP panel disagrees, former France boss Raymond Domenech thinks the U.S. will reach the quarterfinals at the World Cup. "I've always found them to be well organized at the World Cup. Their matches are generally tight,” Domenech said. “I would have liked them to beat the Italians in 2006, that would have helped me out." Yes, that would have been nice.
