ASN Morning Read: Looks Like a September to Forget

We're still dealing with the fallout from the Brazil debacle; we're also looking ahead to a promising young talent; an international superstar gets paid, though not as much as you might expect; USWNT news.

  • Re-upping this: "In a friendly against one of the world’s best teams that doubled as a vital tune-up ahead of the American's biggest game of the year, Klinsmann started two fullbacks who are central defenders, one very inexperienced central defender, another who has been average in Liga Mx and MLS, a holding midfielder who hadn't played the position before, a central midfield pairing that has failed to find its rhythm for the better part of five years, and a recently converted right winger who has played just one club match in 2015. The offensive weapons off the bench were a 2.Bundesliga player who has scored four club goals over the past two years and a college player who has an economics class next week."

  • Point:
  • Counterpoint:
  • Whoa: "Australia's two-match series in the United States to face the Women's World Cup champions has been called off as negotiations continue over a new collective bargaining agreement, the players union said Wednesday. Professional Footballers Australia, a union representing male and female players, said the tour was called off late Wednesday, a day after players refused to show up for practice in Sydney. The previous agreement expired in July."

  • Drogba is a steal:  "SI.com understands that Drogba’s 18-month contract is worth approximately $3.5 million in total. He’ll be paid half his base salary in 2015 since he didn’t sign until late July and then the full amount next year. In addition, he’ll receive a marketing bonus worth around $1 million spread across the life of the contract."

  • So... here's the greatest ad in the history of the U.S.-Mexico rivalry.

  • Sebastian Lletget is still only 23: "Suffice it to say, Lletget has the confidence and trust of his manager for perhaps the first time in his professional career. LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena signed the 23-year old in May, and if there was an award for Most Impactful Midseason Signing, Lletget just might walk away with the trophy."

  • Ugh:
