  • Jurgen Klinsmann discussed a wide range of topics Thursday and while you should read the entire thing, here are some highlights:
  • On tactical deficiencies: "When you invest a lot of energy like we did for the World Cup, where we outworked the opponent but did not necessarily outplay the opponent, it shows you that we are also behind tactically."

  • On player fitness: "I don’t know about the NBA or the other big sports but vacation is actually still doing something. I play tennis, I go for runs, yoga, Pilates, whatever. But I keep going. We have a culture here in the U.S. where, ‘I lay on the beach and I have a good time.’"

  • On Gedion Zelalem: "I think he’s already at a level where he can definitely play on the senior team."
  • On DeAndre Yedlin: "He’s in the right spot because he needs to grow. He will grow eventually even if he’s not playing right now. He will grow.”

  • In the Gold Cup draw, U.S. got Panama, Haiti and the winner of a play-in game between Honduras and French Guiana.

  • Yet again, the United States fell in the new FIFA World Rankings, dropping from No. 31 to No. 32.
