Things Are Looking Up
The Team Is Regressing
Deep Run Into Tournament Three losses in group stage
No doubt the team is improving. Regarding depth of run, this is a tough group, so even with a better team, it is a toss-up whether they make it to the round of 16. — The rationalist
Over the longer term we're trending in the right direction, but right now our defense won't cut it in this group. — Bob
The time coming to say world USA recognize for football of the world in this BRAZIL 2014 world cup..the eye all player saying with strategy.. — Mrinmoy
I hope the guys can represent. I fear they will be over-matched. The only way the USMNT can compete is to play as 1. 11 men, on the field, acting as one. Anything else and they will be picked apart. — azgreg
The team looks good, but they have a big task ahead of them. — Matt
you should have listened — doompaul
I don't think the US defeats Germany or Portugal but I do think we are seeing some progress. — Craig
They have an outside chance. Looking for a win against Ghana and a tie against Portugal and Germany are needed! — Bartels
remember, we are good at being underdogs — klinsee
Our left flank is weak and our cf Altidore is toothless and Klinsmann depends too much on Donovan and Dempsey who are past their prime — Excellency
3 Ls and done — Xose
As the great Alexi Lalas is fond of saying, "Form is Falacy." When we line up with our best XI, we are capable of beating anyone. This team is vastly superior from the 2010 group winners that started Ricardo Clark, Edson Buddle, and Robbie Findlay. Can we get results against Portugal and Ghana? Sure, we can. — JxAx
The team is stronger than past years despite their poor form recently. I think they shockingly advance out of the group. — Jcotton12
I just don't know... I'm a mess of emotion and conflicting analysis What happened to jozy and clint? Do streaky players matter more? Or four years of prep? — sunshine
I'm hoping for some of our guys playing out of their minds and a great deal of luck. — John Esser
As of right now, too many of our players are in poor form. Obviously there is some time to fix that, with Deuce in particular looking like he could be back up to international quality soon, but the point is there is no reason to panic just yet. I think we can reasonably expect to lose 1, tie 1, win 1. If we produce plenty of goals out of those, we could advance, but I'll be the first to admit that's hopeful. — Geo
We don't have enough Champion's League players — Jermaine Jones
Zero correlation between March, April, and June. — KXRTI
if the strategy, tactical formation, lack player chemistry, and individual bad form continue this is as hopeful as I can be:( — capitan macpatton
The MLS core of the roster will be in mid-season form, which is an advantage over the Euros. That might be enough of an edge to get past Ghana and tie with Portugal. If USA gets out of the group watch out. — Bumper
I think they'll just barely miss out on advancement, losing out to Portugal on goal differential — Mark
Things aren't looking too great, but it's still a deep squad and a Johansson/Altidore pairing has the potential for something great. I still think there's a good shot to get out of groups and maybe go on a run. — Daniel
Right this second, the team seems to be moving in the wrong direction. There is time to right the ship, but I'm worried. — JHG
Johannsson will need to be on the field for the U.S. to score goals. Jozy's club situation will unfortunately affect his confidence going into the World Cup. If he could score vs. Ghana then it's all erased. Scoring on the World Cup stage is a big confidence builder. — Jimmy
Possible QF if we can get out of the group. Further run is almost impossible since the opponent will probably be Argentina. A win or a tie against Germany in the group stage may change everything even the players and Klinsmann's negative views. — @WorldCupArt
Injuries. Poor club form. Poor national team performances. Let not the return to MLS of key players fool you--the US MNT has problems beyond which clubs host US nats. Can better national and club performances emerge before Brazil? Possibly. Hopefully. — Paul
The wrong guys are in the wrong form, and there is just no solid answers on the backline it seems. Maybe they could get away with it against an easy draw but not this time. Short of Chandler, Jones, Dempsey, and Altidore finding brilliant form unexpectedly, I don't see this WC being a memorable one. — Vinnie
The teams is losing ground abroad, except for Iceman. Three losses would still be harsh, but a deep run into the tourney seems more improbable now. — JW
Group of death too much — Daniel
Klinns needs more guys to make tough decision. Sit demps and Jozy. Start Donovan in Demps spot. Start Aron over Jozy. Even possibly change formation to 5-3-2. Goodson, Besler , Omar in middle. Cameron and Fabian out wide. Zusi- Bradley- Bedoya. Donovan - Aron up top. Sit jones. — Chris
Those happy days when Jozy was scoring goals and we were winning every game seem long ago now. Too many individuals in a funk and now the team is struggling. In a short tournament anything is possible but hard to feel good right now. — Brian
Tough group, out of form key parts and injuries...low expectations but I'll be happily surprised with any positive results. Far different outlook from 2010 due to group and form of team. — Rainmaker
