Landon Donovan Has Un-Retired: What Kind of Impact Will He Make in LA?

The 34-year-old Californian retired after the 2014 MLS season...and is now back with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Will Donovan make a difference as Bruce Arena's men make a run for a sixth MLS title? Or is this more of a feel-good story that won't necessarily help L.A.? Graph your position and leave a few comments. Hover over shaded cells to read what others think.

Huge Impact
No Impact Whatsoever
Great for MLS and Soccer This is a bad idea
He will make a big impact and probably eliminate my team from the playoffs. — Keeper
He's still got it — Falco
Great idea! PLay for USA — Naveed
Awesomeness! — Fredo
Yo — Y not
He is a very talented player who has always made his teams better. At 34, I'm sure that he can continue to contribute, as long as his health and his desire permit. I would love to see him in the next WC too - he can still contribute. Klinsy may disagree, though. I'm still fuming about his omission in Brazil... IMO, he has never been over-hyped - through all the ups and downs he has been one of the greatest US players, ever. — dave
overall positive all around — jd
Still better then 1/2 the players on our National Team and that is when he is on the field and drinking a beer. — Michael
Here — Asr
Some good buzz, if he can get to playing shape soon might make an impact. Good for moral and fans. — TravelingCEO
It was bound to happen. The game needs his passion. — Marcos
Always great to have the legend back but, having not played for two years, he has certainly lost some of his sharpness and will only have a minor role going forward. — Brendan
LD was still physically capable when he retired. But without any MNT chances and having achieved it all with the Galaxy, he had nothing to play for. It sounds like he's found something worth playing for. I'm not sure if it will be for a full 90 like he once did, but LD still has enough class to help the Galaxy. — Pwyll
He'll do fine — Matt
I think he has the opportunity to make a decent impact. However, I also think some of the young guys waiting in the wings at LA Galaxy II have to feel that a big chance is being taken from them for PR purposes. I would have loved to have seen more of Bradford Jameson or Jose Villareal — Dakota
I'm not even mad about this, but really don't think he's going to make a huge difference. — Sylvana
Meh. — Chris
Love the positive energy. Not convinced he will take them to the promised land — JHG
The Galaxy need help and MLS can always use publicity. — Scott
As long as expectations are adjusted accordingly, I don't see how it's a bad thing. This is not Brett Favre coming back at 38 or 39. How many teams in MLS have a player like Donovan as an impact sub? — justkunk
He seems less fat surprisingly — Rusty S.
Net positive, but Landon is not the future. — FM DOOM
Always a pleasure to watch this guy. Now he wants to have a moment (multiple moments) of glory where his son is there too. Does the aging athlete still have enough left to make a contribution at a major league level? We have seen this before in soccer and other sports. It usually doesn't amount to much, but we tend to forget those times. When it does amount to something, well, iconic moments are born. — ~OGx3
Why not? He'll certainly have some impact, and it doesn't hurt the Galaxy or the league. Let's see what he can still do. — Tim Street
I hope it's like Jordan coming back. — Rogelio
More exposure in the media and the fact he's American helps kids here dream of playING like him. — Crow
No, he's probably a replacement level fwd at this point. — Tom
Hehehe u found me!! Nice — High Ding
This is where I stand — Luke
This is how I feel — JC
Probably not going to play much but who cares! — Matt
Best of luck Landon. — John
Savior complex. — Stacytpfeiffer@sbcglobal.net
This late in the season, having not played for over a year? — Swordopolis
I know there was injury trouble but I mean... Come on. — Sam Mitchell
mehhh — dk
I think he's going to just be mediocre, and not at all impactful on the matches. Better to remember him at the top of his game. — Mountainhawk
meh — Stephen
tbh I don't see him making a huge impact on the field but I don't think it's gonna hurt much... — Kensean
Bad idea for the team. Shows a lack of confidence in current roster. Tells them thanks for getting us this far now we will bring him in to get you a title. No doubt he can still play. Match fitness should be an issue — Jake
Too little, too late — Bds0105
Enough already — TJ
He's like an American Ronaldinho as he just doesn't know when to quit. Shame on LA for taking him back. Go back to being a pointless pundit instead of a pointless oldtimer — Piper
Landy Cakes is lazy, always has been, and always will be. — Landy Quits-a-lot
I don't see him making an impact. I guess this might be better for MLS than where I'm putting it though. The hype train has been released after all. — wandmdave
Looks totally natural, right?? — High Ding
is this supposed to be here? — High Ding
Cfff — Tdccf
