THE UNITED STATES men's national team has added another friendly as part of its preparation for the Copa America Centenario, as U.S. Soccer today announced that the team will play its first-ever game against Puerto Rico on May 22 in Bayamon (12pm; FS1, UniMas, UDN).

The Puerto Rico match will be the first of three friendlies for the U.S. leading up to the Copa America, and it will be an interesting test for head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who will not have his MLS-based players available until after that weekend. As a result, the roster for that first friendly is likely to consist mostly of European-based players, potentially including some from the U-23 and U-20 groups.

Training camp will open for the U.S. on May 16 in Miami. The final roster for the Copa America must be submitted no later than May 20.

"We are thrilled to be playing Puerto Rico in our first preparation game for the Copa America Centenario," Klinsmann said in a statement. "This will be an important opportunity for our players stay sharp and keep progressing towards our opener against Colombia, and we appreciate all the efforts by the Puerto Rican Football Federation to help organize the match."

Copa America will present a big test for Klinsmann, who is looking to rebuild the Americans’ confidence after a rough 2015. Playing in a summer tournament on home soil for the second straight year, the U.S. was placed into a difficult group with Colombia, Costa Rica, and Paraguay.

The U.S. roster could feature a different look than in years past, with players such as Christian Pulisic, Matt Miazga, Ethan Finlay, Bobby Wood, Jordan Morris, and Darlington Nagbe all in the mix to play their first major international tournamen
