FOR AMERICAN SOCCER OBSESSIVES, crafting a United States All-Time Best XI is a tantalizing parlor game.

Who do you start at forward alongside Brian McBride? Eric Wynalda? Landon Donovan? Clint Mathis? Joe-Max Moore? Bruce Murray? Somebody else? Does McBride even make your XI?

Or do you change the conversation by opting for a single-striker setup? Or what about a 4-3-3?

The possibilities are endless—and that's just at one position. What are you going to do in the midfield, the back line, and in goal?

The opportunities to engage in delightful, drawn-out debates with fellow soccer fans are too good to pass up. That's why we partnered with the folks at Howler Magazine to create the intensely interactive U.S. All-Time Best Starting XI tool.

By simply dragging and dropping players into a formation of your own creation, you can tell the world what you think about U.S. soccer's all-time best, tweet your take out to your followers and friends, and then brace yourself for a vigorous discussion.

I created one, and I'm already working on a 2.0 version. Brian Sciaretta has one. Same with Phil Schoen. If we can do it, anybody can. So go read ours, create yours, get stuck in, and start something.

All told there are 49 U.S. greats to choose from, but if you think we've left somebody off, tell us in the Comments below, and we'll endeavor to do something about it. In the meantime, if you aren't familiar with Howler, that needs to change. Immediately. Start here.
