THE UNITED STATES MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM is set for another high-profile encounter against Germany this summer. It will be the third time the U.S. has faced Germany during Jurgen Klinsmann’s tenure as coach.

The news broke today at a press conference in Germany in which Oliver Bierhoff, the former German great who now serves within the German soccer federation, said: “In June we play the United States and look forward to meeting Jurgen Klinsmann once again.” The two teams squared off in May 2013 for the first time under Klinsmann's watch, and the United States defeated a depleted German team 4-3 in Washington, DC. The sides also clashed this past summer at the World Cup, with Germany dominating possession in its 1-0 victory. That win ensured Germany won the group while the close scoreline ensured the the Americans advanced to the round of 16.

Klinsmann, of course, served as head coach of Germany at the 2006 World Cup and led the Germans to a third place finish while playing at home. His assistant at the time was Joachim Löw who assumed head coaching duties when Klinsmann left following that tournament. This past summer, Löw helped guide Germany to its first World Cup title since 1990 in Brazil.
