The United States Is Going to Russia (for Soccer)
The Stars and Stripes will travel to southern Russia for a match against the high-powered team. The game will be a stiff test for the Americans, but it is a winnable one.
The long-rumored friendly between the United States and Russia is confirmed.
The Americans will play in Krasnodar on November 14. Officials from the Russian city near the Black Sea complained after they were shut out from potentially hosting a World Cup game.
The fixture is a FIFA date, meaning Jurgen Klinsmann will have plenty of options. But with MLS playoffs in full swing and only one game scheduled, it's likely that he will rely primarily on European-based players.
A win against the Russians would mean the U.S. finishes the year at 10-2-2, good enough for its highest winning percentage in a season in the modern era.
