Jermaine Jones plans to spend another four years playing with Schalke, then finish his career in Major League Soccer. We shall see. We shall see. He will be 34 at the time. David Beckham was 32 when he moved to MLS. And Jermaine Jones is no David Beckham.
The men’s under-20 national team lost 2-1 to Canada in the first of three games at the Marbella Cup. Mario Rodriguez tied the game in the 75th minute on a cross from Liverpool's Marc Pelosi, but the Maple Leaf's Caleb Clarke tallied the game-winner five minutes later. It’s been an underwhelming year for Tab Ramos' side, which is 1-6 in 2012. The United States’ next two games are against Scotland and Azerbaijan, and anything less than two victories can be considered another disappointing showing for the young national team.
Alan Gordon has a not-so-secret theory on his late-career success: "I had to spend some extra time, be a better professional and take it a lot more serious and do a lot more work than other guys do. Come early, stay late - that's what I've been doing."
Former U.S. national team goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann could see action for Seattle Sounders FC by the end of the month. When the Sounders play Marathon of Honduras in the CONCACAF Champions League on Oct. 24, the big man could be between the sticks. Not bad for a guy who was retired not too long ago.
