Sacha Kljestan and Oguchi Onyewu battled in the Champions League with Anderlecht and Malaga managing a 2-2 draw. The result sent the Belgian squad home with the surprising Spanish side taking the top of Group C. Kljestan had the game-tying assist because of course he did. ESPN's Doug McIntyre grabs an image of the pair exchanging jerseys after the match. Elsewhere, Jermaine Jones and Schalke won Group B with a 1-1 draw against Montpellier.
Today in the Champions League, Michael Parkhurst and Nordsjælland take on Chelsea. Parkhurst's club cannot advance out of the group stage. Next year, we'll get Americans who make it to the round of 16.
Leander Schaerlaeckens makes a compelling case that the future of Major League Soccer lies in young stars, not aging ones like Mr. Beckham. If he's right (hint: he is), then that will bode well for the development of the United States national team, right? Unless, of course, those young players come from abroad.
Sean McElroy at The Yanks Are Coming takes a long(!) look at the so-far tenure of Jurgen Klinsmann, deciding that the man is doing mostly better than okay. I'm not sure I agree with all of it, but there's a lot to digest if you have 10 minutes or so to check out at work. I will not, however, understand Klinsmann's obsession with Jermaine Jones.
