Morning Read: Aron Johannsson Is Out of Control

The perhaps USMNTer tallies another ridiculous goal in Denmark; one of Major League Soccer's rising stars gets close to re-upping with his team; Mike Magee is great.

  • Stop us if you've heard this one before: Aron Johannsson scored for AGF Aarhus. Okay, stop us if you've heard this one before: Aron Johannsson scored for AGF Aarhus on a laser in the snow. Just watch the video.

  • No Short Corners' Greg Seltzer hears that Matt Besler, MLS Defender of Year, plans to re-sign with Sporting Kansas City despite "appreciable interest from Belgium and England." That's... I dunno... interesting, I suppose? Score one for MLS, but also, you gotta think some people were hoping Besler would do the whole "challenge himself in Europe" thing. Do you read this as a sign of MLS's growing quality or of Besler wanting to play it safe?

  • Bruce Arena is the key to the Los Angeles Galaxy. Not Landon Donovan or David Beckham or Robbie Keane or anyone else. The coach. Um, sure? (Better yet: Is this the best Mike Magee quote of all time? “The one thing you start to think about when you look around, you see David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane. Even Bruce Arena. ... It's not hard to realize this will be spoken about for a long time. You know one day, they'll be talking about [this team]. Whether or not they mention my name—I doubt they will—but I'll be able to tell my kids I was on that team.”)

  • Alex Morgan wins the United States Female Athlete of the Year. A serious question: Would you vote for her or male winner Clint Dempsey for U.S. Athlete of the Year?

  • Tons of trades in MLS.
