A pair of Alex Morgan goals led the Portland Thorns to a 4-3 win over FC Kansas City on Thursday. The Thorns are now tied for first with Sky Blue FC, but Christie Rampone and company can reclaim the top spot this Saturday. A victory over the Flash won’t come easy, though. An Abby Wambach game-winner lifted the Flash to a 2-1 victory the last time these two met in May.

D.C. United vs. New England Revolution

Juan Agudelo wasn’t named to the provisional Gold Cup roster, but he’s found a new home in New England. The No. 36-ranked player in the ASN 100 has scored in two of his last three matches. He’s now one goal shy of matching his 2012 total. Don’t be surprised if that goal comes in Week 15 against the last-place team in MLS—D.C. United.

Real Salt Lake vs. Los Angeles Galaxy

Omar Gonzalez was sorely missed in the Galaxy’s 5-0 loss to New England last week. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, it doesn’t get any easier this weekend. A trip to Rio Tinto Stadium awaits the defending champions. All eyes will be on Landon Donovan—the No. 5-ranked player in the ASN 100—but keep an eye out for Luis Gil. There’s a reason he captains the U.S. U-20s.

Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps

More than 50,000 tickets have been sold for this week’s match between Seattle and Vancouver. It will be the fifth-largest home crowd in Sounders history, but that’s not the only storyline surrounding this Cascadia showdown. Temporary grass will be installed ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier between the United States and Panama. American soccer fans will be eager to see how the surface plays. Consider this a dress rehearsal, Seattle. The real work comes Tuesday.

BEST OF THE REST
MLS: Portland Timbers vs. Chicago Fire (8:30 p.m., Saturday, MLS Stream of the Week)—It’s been a dream start in Chicago for Mike Magee. The true test comes this weekend when the Fire travel to Portland.

NO U.S. ANGLE BUT...
World Cup Qualifying: Panama vs. Mexico (10:00 p.m., Friday, Telemundo)—It never hurts to pay attention to your arch rival. Especially when they sit atop the Hexagonal.
