MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER officially got its man.

Cyle Larin, the Canadian national team forward from the University of Connecticut, has officially signed his Generation Adidas deal with MLS. American Soccer Now reported Sunday that Larin and MLS had reached a verbal agreement; signatures were exchanged Monday afternoon, making Larin the frontrunner to be the top pick in next week’s SuperDraft.

Larin scored 23 goals in two seasons of college soccer and was the American Athletic Conference’s offensive player of the year this season. Though he has played for Canada’s senior team, Larin, 19, is currently with the Great White North’s U-20 team in Jamaica as it prepares for CONCACAF qualifying for the U-20 World Cup. As such, he won’t be at the league’s scouting combine which begins Friday in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Expansion Orlando City holds the top pick in the SuperDraft followed by fellow newcomer New York City FC. Both are very high on Larin and with a small Generation Adidas class—the program the league has traditionally used to get underclassmen in the draft—it will likely take a rich offer to get Orlando to move down from the top spot.

So far Central Florida forward Romario Williams, a junior from Jamaica, is the only other underclassmen MLS has signed to a Generation Adidas deal though MLS is in talks with a couple of other players including Syracuse junior goalkeeper Alex Bono and North Carolina State freshman defender Conor Donovan, the only current college player on the U.S. U-20 roster for CONCACAF qualifying.
