Clint Dempsey scored a stoppage-time goal against Manchester United, giving Tottenham a 1-1 draw in most dramatic fashion.

The goal, Dempsey's fifth league tally this season and his fourth in his last four appearances in all competitions, earned a vital point for Spurs and keep them in fourth position in the English Premier League.

"We needed to get a point because you need as many points as possible if you want to finish in the top four," Dempsey said just after the match. "So anytime you get, in a season, four points against Man United, that's a great return. We're pleased with it."

The crucial tally came off a Tom Huddlestone cross that United goalkeeper David De Gea pushed wide. Aaron Lennon, however, got on the clearance and sent in a smart cross that Dempsey placed in the corner with a right-footed strike.

After he scored, the Texas native celebrated with the White Hart Lane crowd and earned a yellow card for his Lambeau Leap-like celebrations. He probably won't mind, and neither will his coach, Andres Villas-Boas.

"I've had a slow start to the season in terms of scoring goals," Dempsey said, "but it's good to start chipping in a little more and hopefully there will be more to come. But yeah, it feels great to score against a top club like Man United. Hopefully I can score a few more season."

"When I went through one on one and made that shot I thought it was going in," Dempsey added, referring to a second-half strike that De Gea pushed wide. "It looked like it was going to be one of those days. But Lennon put in a great ball and I was able to put it on goal and I'm happy we were able to get a point."
