Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Fabian Johnson missed his side’s 2-1 defeat of Bayer Leverkusen due to a groin injury, his second match out in a row. With the win, Gladbach look to have all but secured fourth place and a chance at Champions League soccer next season.

John Anthony Brooks returned from his shin injury to play the full match of Hertha Berlin’s 2-1 loss to Darmstadt on Saturday. A win over Mainz on the final day of the season should secure Berlin fifth spot in the league.

Timothy Chandler came on as a 59th minute substitute in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 defeat of Borussia Dortmund, returning from a torn thigh muscle. Chandler could have put the Eagles two up in the 92nd minute, but his shot wasn’t good enough to beat Dortmund keeper Roman Burki.

The win moved Frankfurt to 15th in the table and sets up what should be a captivating final match against Werder Bremen to avoid 16th, where a team must beat the third-placed side in the second division over two legs to remain in the top-flight next season. Aron Johannsson remains out for Bremen due to a nerve irritation in his right hip. The playoff matches on May 19 and 23 could also prevent Chandler from joining the start of U.S. training camp on May 16.

Borussia Dortmund winger Joe Gyau announced on his Instagram that he passed his fitness tests last Wednesday. Judging from the video the 23-year-old posted with the update, he’s pretty excited about it:

Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem has one last hurdle in his season loan at Rangers: a Scottish Cup Final. Zelalem credited the support of the team for getting him through the several minor injuries that plagued his season. “It was a very good start for me. I was playing good football and the team was playing very well, but then as the season wore on I started picking up little injuries which kept me out the team,” he told the club on Saturday. “The team spirit is unbelievable though, and they have helped to get me through.” Newly promoted Rangers will face Hibernian on May 21.

In Liga MX, Edgar Castillo broke his nose in training last week and will be sporting this protective face mask in top-seeded Monterrey’s quarter-final leg against Tigres on Wednesday:

FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges posted this video on his social media as he recovers from a torn meniscus in his left knee:

Feels good to be moving quickly again! #Recovery ????????

A video posted by Matt Hedges (@mhedges24) on

The Dallas Morning News reported that Hedges was running and making quick cuts in training on Monday, and may be back in the team sooner than previously expected. "Definitely ahead of schedule," Hedges said. "We're kind of evaluating how I feel and how I look doing the running stuff, so we'll see."

Chris Tierney was back in full training Monday for the New England Revolution after three games out with a hamstring injury. Teammate Charlie Davies is still on the mend from the groin injury that kept him out of the Revs last two, but started some running on the side. New England next face next host the Chicago Fire on Saturday.

After missing the Fire’s 1-1 draw against D.C. United on April 30 due to a calf injury, Matt Polster was back in training last week. Chicago travel to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday.
