Brek Shea Returns to MLS, Will Play for Orlando City

The six-foot-three winger is no doubt returning to the states sooner than he had anticipated, but he isn't the first American soccer player to go overseas, struggle, and then return to MLS.

BREK SHEA'S EUROPEAN adventure is over—and not a moment too soon.

The 24-year-old winger struggled to make an impact with English clubs Stoke City, Barnsley, and Birmingham City, so now he will return to Major League Soccer and join Orlando City SC in its debut season. The video below features Orlando City coach Adrian Heath and Shea talking about the signing.

Shea made 98 appearances for FC Dallas between 2008 and 2012 but managed to get on the field just three times for the team that signed him, Stoke City. He also made 14 appearances during loans to lower-tier clubs.

Shea, a Jurgen Klinsmann favorite, managed to earn 10 caps in 2013 despite his lack of club appearances, but he only made two appearances for the United States national team in 2014. A return to MLS, and a return to regular playing time, gives the athletic winger a chance to resuscitate his dormant national team career.

Do you like the move? Did Orlando City SC land a gem, or will Shea continue to struggle? Share your take below.
