JUST ONE DAY before the U.S. men's national team’s CONCACAF Cup match against Mexico, Jurgen Klinsman revealed that the squad will be without midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, who picked up a fever on Wednesday morning and could not recover in time for the game. The Nantes player will be replaced by Union Berlin forward Bobby Wood.

Injuries will prevent several other regulars from participating in the high-profile contest. Werder Bremen striker Aron Jóhannson will be sidelined for at least three weeks due to a nerve irritation in his right hip, the club announced on Thursday.  The 24-year-old picked up the injury in training on Sep. 22 and it’s the major reason why he’s absent from the national squad. There’s no certain return date set, and the club said Jóhannson “will be treated in a conservative manner.”

John Anthony Brooks was another casualty who could have featured at the Rose Bowl. After recently injuring his ankle, the Hertha Berlin defender has been training individually and should return to team training soon—sporting a new, peroxide-blond hairdo. Coach Pal Dardai told Bild that he expects Brooks back next week, indicating that the 22-year-old may feature in the team’s next game at Schalke.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Timmy Chandler returned to training last week and a Tuesday Tweet from the club indicates that it’s all going well:

Chandler had been out for close to a month after undergoing surgery on his meniscus.

Greg Garza has been ruled out for up to five months after he undergoes multiple surgeries on his right hip. Garza had only played three matches for Atlas, where he is on loan from Tijuana.

Want to see a good update on Joe Gyau’s nine-month injury rehab? Joe’s got one for you:

In an interview with Pro Conversations Gyau said that his knee is recovering well and he expects to return to play “a good chunk of this season.”

Chad Marshall returned to training on Tuesday after missing out on the Seattle Sounders’ 1-1 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Marshall sprained his neck in training the Wednesday before the match. “We’re going to be cautious with it,” said Sounders coach Sigi Schmid. “The MRI showed nothing serious, which is good news. But it’s matter of, ‘We got this week, let’s be smart, let’s not be stupid, and let’s give him some time.’” Schmid also said that he hopes to have the defender back for the Oct. 18 trip to the Houston Dynamo.

Robbie Rogers was subbed off by the Galaxy on Sunday as a precaution after picking up a left hip injury.

Kellyn Acosta had to be subbed out in the 70th minute of FC Dallas’ scoreless draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Philadelphia Union Designated Player Maurice Edu didn’t feature in his side’s 3-1 loss at the hands of Toronto FC on Saturday due to a left hamstring strain.
