  • World Cup bound: "Neither team managed to score in regulation but the U.S. prevailed in penalties, 5-4, and will advance to the October tournament in Chile. The tension was palpable throughout the evening, and both teams played like they were afraid of losing."

  • Alejandro Bedoya took on the playmaking role in FC Nantes 2-1 victory: "The US attacker worked a lukewarm full shift in the No. 10 role, even if his passing game was a shade off. Bedoya misfired with 18 of his 37 attempts, including a pair of early through balls that were too heavy for area runners to reach. Bedoya's lone scoring chance came in the 17th minute, when his close range header was well-saved by the Evian netminder. For the game, the New Jersey native also notched two tackles, two set-piece clearances and the uncharacteristically high total of five ball-handling turnovers."

  • Not untrue:
  • The 2022 World Cup moving to the winter pits U.S. interests against those in the rest of the world: “I think it’s a disaster for the U.S.,” Andrew Georgiou, the chief operating officer for the sports management agency Lagardere Unlimited, told The New York Times.

  • A little late on this but here's a video of Mix Diskerud's movements in NYCFC's first game: "Many of his passes are short and precise. Some consider these to be “safe” passes. Mix is a finesse player. He values possession of the ball. If there is a risky pass that will help his team to be made he will attempt it. On the other hand he is composed enough not to force the issue. He’d rather keep the ball for his side in an attempt to open more space and opportunity for his teammates."
