Sunday’s match against El Salvador drew a 1.2 overnight rating on FOX, higher than the Champions League final in May, which drew a 1.0 overnight. FOX proper aired the group stage match against Cuba (0.6 overnight) and will carry Sunday’s Gold Cup final.
The knee injury that knocked Herculez Gomez out of the Gold Cup isn’t too bad, and Club Tijuana says he’s about two or three weeks away from returning. Gomez still is yet to make his debut for Xolos but if their timetable is correct, he should be good for World Cup qualifying come September.
U-18 head coach Javier Perez named his 18-player roster for the Milk Cup, which kicks off on July 29 in Northern Ireland. The U.S. has won the tournament twice (2005 and 2010) and starts off against Mexico on Monday before taking on Northern Ireland and Denmark. The squad includes European-based players Lynden Gooch of Sunderland and Ethan Horvath of Molde FK, Josh Gatt’s team in Norway.
Houston Dynamo host Stoke City in a friendly tomorrow night and some Houston-based Stoke season ticket holders are hosting an open bar for two hours prior to the match. Neil Chapman and his family left the UK in 1990 and he says they go to “four to six” games a year back across the pond. Interestingly, there’s another family in Houston that has Stoke City season tickets. If you’re in the Houston area, put on some red stripes and head over. Really brings “friendly” to a different level. And naturally, the headline is “Houston, we have an open bar!”
The U.S. has touched down in Dallas to a very tasty treat:
Soccer Over There found some highlights of Bahia’s 0-0 draw, which is significant because Freddy Adu saw 13 minutes, his first time since May.
