After passing on the Vancouver Whitecaps job, Bob Bradley admits that “the next step needed to be Europe.” He’s been linked to Norwegian club Stabaek and the 55-year-old confirmed those rumors. “There’s discussions ongoing, a few things out there,” Bradley said. “None of them as far along as with Stabaek. I’m still waiting to see how things play out.”
Terrence Boyd scored in early in Rapid Vienna’s do-or-die Europa League match, but Dynamo Kiev won 3-1, knocking the Austrian side out of the competition. Boyd finished with four goals in the group stage, tied for third among all players.
In other Europa League action, Aron Johansson came on in the 73rd minute and picked up a yellow card as AZ finished atop Group L with a 1-1 draw at PAOK. Brad Friedel started in a 4-1 win over Anzhi, as Tottenham finished the group stage with a perfect 18 points.
Brian Sciaretta weighed in with four thoughts on Klinsmann’s contract extension. A gutsy move considering how quickly things can change, but Sciaretta says it’s “a show of confidence that Klinsmann has a cohesive vision for the future.” In the comments section, Adrian Garza pointed us to a video from the 2010 World Cup with Klinsmann talking about what’s wrong with the U.S. system and how players need to be groomed on a “technical level.” These are the same things he’s preaching nearly four years later.
Julian Green was added to Bayern Munich’s roster for the Club World Cup in Morocco, replacing the injured Arjen Robben. This comes just a few weeks after the 18-year-old made his first-team debut in the Champions League. Bayern’s first match in the tournament is Tuesday against the winner of Guangzhou Evergrande and Al Ahly.
