  • Geoff Cameron is going under the knife, getting hernia surgery: The USA international looks like being out for at least another fortnight after finally giving in to a long-running complaint. Stoke assistant manager Mark Bowen explained: "It's been troubling him for a while, so the time has come for an operation. He started feeling it last season, then obviously went to the World Cup and came back to us still feeling a bit sore."

  • Berti Vogts, who is the Azerbaijan coach and United States national team advisor, is telling Borussia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre where to play Fabian Johnson: "Left-midfield is not Johnson's position, he might have three touches of the ball in 90 minutes there. He is a right-back. He has to play on the right to play to his strengths. He was one of the best players at the World Cup in this position and he belongs among the best right-backs in the Bundesliga. You have to get used to him first. And he needs to learn to give it his all in training. But on the pitch he has great speed and a fantastic finish."

  • The U.S. U-20s drew with Argentina 1-1, courtesy of Zach Pfeffer's tally in the 61st minute.

  • Christine Rampone will captain the U.S. women again at the upcoming women's World Cup: As best as anyone can tell, Rampone never stopped going because nature or circumstance never told her to. And it didn't occur to her to quit of her own volition. "Why not?" she says at length. "If I'm able and capable, why not? I'm waiting for the aches or pains that are going to tell me, but why can't I control when I'm done? Not many people get to do that."

  • Today in Talking Smack with Mix Diskerud:
  • MLS is getting a new logo, and at least one person is outraged. Because that's the thing to be upset about when it comes to the domestic league.

  • Have you ever heard of Edwin Lara? Yeah, us neither. But he's the latest player in the U.S.-Mexico talent tug o' war.
