Costa Rica is officially protesting the game against the United States. "We ask for a prolonged suspension for the match referee and a replay of the match because of the conditions in which we played. We understand it is complicated, but we feel we must protest," Costa Rican federation vice president Jorge Hidalgo told La Nacion. Translation: Yes, we know we are going to lose but hey, we get to save face, right?
The U.S. held a closed door practice on Sunday, except a handful of Mexican journalists managed to sneak into a nearby apartment and videotape the proceedings. Jurgen Klinsmann had the police called. If that doesn't get you excited for the game on Tuesday, nothing will.
Jose Manuel de la Torre: In trouble.
The Americans aren't the only team with left back issues. Jorge Torres Nilo will miss Tuesday's game with an injury. Villa's Army founder Sergio Tristan gave Know Thy Enemy a prediction: "El Chepo seems to only have midfielders available to take over the left back position. Andres Guardado and Carlos Salciedo are the leading candidates to replace Torres Nilo." No, you can't have DaMarcus Beasley.
Speaking of Run DMB, Grant Wahl goes feature-length on the defender/midfielder. The best part is when the 30-year-old starts spitting out parts of his tooth.
In other U.S.-related news, the U-20 World Cup draw is Monday afternoon. I'll be honest: It's a little hard to get excited about that right now.
