The United States national team striker isn't going to end up in the Big Apple, although he still might return to Major League Soccer; we get lazy and republish a press release; we search for answers.

  • Jozy Altidore might not be coming to New York Red Bulls after all. The club, which is desperate to cut salary, does not want to acquiesce to his salary demands: "One source with knowledge of the club's thinking said that the Red Bulls, which fired popular coach Mike Petke on Wednesday, are not willing to spend the kind of money it would take to land Altidore. Altidore is demanding a salary in the $5-6 million range, sources told ESPNFC.com's Jeff Carlisle, and Sunderland would almost certainly demand a muliti-million dollar transfer fee for a player they paid close to $10 million for in the summer of 2013."

  • But hey:
  • Here's the beginning of a press released about a soccer tournament: "The Copa America Centenario USA 2016 is starting to create significant excitement across the United States as 24 metropolitan areas have already shown interest in hosting matches during the tournament. The cities are planning to submit a proposal to the Local Organizing Committee, U.S. Soccer, to host matches during the historic centennial edition of the South American championship. The 2016 edition of tournament, which will take place in June, will mark the first time this world class event has been staged outside of South America."

  • Frank Lampard, now definitely coming to an NYCFC club near you in July. Sure. Whatever. Are we done here yet?
