- A veteran of three World Cup squads, 43-year-old Brad Friedel is officially retiring at the end of the season and will shift his focus to coaching and broadcasting. "I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved in my career," Friedel said. "When I first started the journey I never imagined it would be this long, playing 23 seasons in total and representing some incredible clubs." A legend at Blackburn and Aston Villa, Friedel's 310 consecutive starts is a Premier League record.

- CONCACAF announced the host cities for October's Olympic qualifying tournament. The United States will play its first two games at Sporting Park in Kasnas City and the third at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado. The decisive semifinals (and pointless final) will be held at Rio Tinto in Utah.
